‘Persona’, from which we derive person and personality, is from the Etruscan, then Greek, then Latin word for mask.

What mask are you wearing today?

Which leads to the question ‘who are you really?’

We wear different masks in different situations, much like an actor in a play. But who is the ‘I’ behind the mask? And what play are we in?

Or are we the mask! The image we have of ourselves or the role that we believe we are playing? And are we in one play or a myriad of plays all happening at the same time?

Thinking deeply about this will eventually reveal the truth about who we really are. And it may come as a form of revelation or ‘awakening!'

Maybe we will discover we are the whole thing: the dance and the dancer: the actor, the play, the theatre, the world, the universe: the swimmer, the waves and the ocean. We are everything...and nothing...at the same time...

Just some thoughts...
