"Once you realize that the road is the goal and that you are always on the road, not to reach a goal, but to enjoy its beauty and its wisdom, life ceases to be a task and becomes natural and simple, in itself an ecstasy.” — Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
We spend so much time and energy worrying anxiously about the past and anticipating future fantasies either in hope or fear, that we forget that the only time that can ever be experienced and enjoyed is now.
That is not to say that we should not learn from the past or plan for the future. That is simply common sense.
But when we allow these thoughts to become obsessive worries, frantic attempts for control and security, futile desires to create a certainty that cannot exist, then we become isolated and selfish, crowding out any opportunity for living Life, giving back or living in harmony. Love exists only in the Now.
Only in the present can we ever see clearly and achieve anything worthwhile.
And there is much to achieve, mend and heal in our divided, often unhappy, stressed and anxious society, where image is more important than truth and money more valuable than wealth. Time to ‘get a life!'
