There is a wishful belief that life should only be composed of good, of light and of eternal happiness: and that the ‘dark’ side is bad, to be avoided at all costs and to be feared. This is what also feeds our feelings of ‘separateness’ and our fear of death – as if death signalled the absolute end of everything and an ultimate failure.

There is a wishful belief that life should only be composed of good, of light and of eternal happiness: and that the ‘dark’ side is bad, to be avoided at all costs and to be feared. This is what also feeds our feelings of ‘separateness’ and our fear of death – as if death signalled the absolute end of everything and an ultimate failure.

But the reality is that we cannot have light without dark, any more than we can have the crest of a wave without a trough, hot without cold, inside without outside or life without death.

Light and dark, just like heads and tails or North and South, may be different in nature but they are inextricably linked and connected. They are One. Just as we are One.
There is no need to fear light or darkness. They are both indispensable to growth…
