Because we feel ‘separate’ from everything, in a body whose boundaries are determined by our skin, we also feel vulnerable and alone, living in an alien and essentially inimical world. This feeling compels us to be ‘selfish’ in the sense of the survival of the fittest. After all, we assume, if we don’t look after ourselves, who will?

This thinking, however, inevitably leads to competition for resources, to conflict, wars, poverty, injustice, cruelty, despair and depression.

The reality is that, whether we can see it or not, we are totally connected to everything and everybody else in a giant ecosystem. We cannot survive, let alone thrive, without nature, sun, rain, social contact and everything else. The stars we see are part of this ecosystem. In this respect, we are connected to them and they to us. We are stars too…wrapped in skin. The light that we seek has always been within…because we are the light…
